Too much or not enough? Here's exactly how much product you should be using.

Using too much or too little skincare product can affect both your routine and results. Applying excess product, like facial cleanser, doesn’t transform it into a deep cleanse —instead, it can lead to irritation or waste. On the flip side, using too little can prevent your skin from receiving the full benefits of the product, SPF for example.

Here’s a helpful guide to using just the right amount:

Body Wash: For traditional liquid body washes, a fifty pence-sized amount is usually enough for your whole body. If you have soft water, you may need less, as it helps the product lather better. Hard water might require a touch more. With a solid body wash bar, it naturally lathers based on how much you need, so no more guessing!

Body Lotion: Use about a tablespoon of lotion for your entire body. This may vary depending on skin type—dry skin may need a little extra, while oily skin needs less. Our Solid Lotion Bars, when swiped directly onto your skin provide the required amount. Massage the lotion in to absorb fully. Even better get someone to do it for you! Remember that drinking plenty of water also keeps your skin hydrated, as does using body wash products that do not contain harsh cleansers.

Facial Cleanser: A pea-sized amount of a facial cleansing balm is typically sufficient. Too much can strip your skin of its natural oils, especially for dry or sensitive skin. Our balm is formulated with shea butter and apricot oil, so is light and nourishing and will leave your skin feeling soft.

Bubble Bath: For a luxurious bubble bath, you typically need 2-3 capfuls for your bath to bubble up nicely. The biggest ingredient in bubble bath, is well, water (aqua). Our bubble bath is condensed and waterless so crumble a large stock cube of solid bubble bath under running water. The size of your tub and preference for bubbles will affect how much you need, but starting small ensures you don’t overdo it. Our bubble bath also contains skin benefitting shea butter and vitamin e.

Shampoo: Too much can cause dandruff and irritation, too little and it won’t cleanse your hair properly. Specifically how much you need depends on your hair length and texture, however a 50p sized amount works well for medium length / fine hair. Shampoo bars are concentrated so you should only need 3-4 swipes of a wet bar on wet hair, ensuring you massage the lather into your scalp.

Sunscreen: You need proper coverage of sunscreen to get the maximum sun protection factor from your product, so a dessert spoon sized amount for your face and neck should be sufficient. Don’t forget to reapply every few hours when out in direct sunlight.

Why Solid Skincare?
Solid products deliver the right amount naturally. They are waterless and condensed, meaning you use only what’s necessary without overusing or underusing—perfect for waste reduction and saying goodbye to guess work.

Liquid products are generally made up of mostly water (you can check this, ‘Aqua’ will be the first ingredient listed). In the case of shower gel water makes up between 70-90%. This means that we are needlessly transporting water around the globe, when there is literally water right there in our bathrooms. Solid skincare removes this problem and doesn’t explode in your luggage!
